11/05/09 - Davidson College Ranks Number Four Nationwide
DAVIDSON, N.C. - Kiplinger's Personal Finance has published its Top 100 list of the best values in Private Colleges, and Davidson College has scored very highly, ranking at #4 amongst liberal arts colleges. The magazine notes that independent colleges actually performed quite well over the past year, with financial aid increasing by 9 percent even as tuition increases have stayed around 4.3 percent, representing the lowest level in decades. Davidson College was singled out for exceptional value on the grounds that it is “the first liberal-arts college to substitute grants for loans in its financial-aid packages, in 2007, and it offers non-need-based aid to 20% of its students.” Kiplinger also points out that Davidson reports one of the highest four-year graduation rates in the magazine's rankings.
