VIERA, FL - SkyCross, a global antenna designer and manufacturer, has announced that its patented, award-winning iMAT® antenna solutions are available in LTE frequencies slated to launch around the world. iMAT is proven to boost capacity, data rates, and reliability of 4G networks to help meet and exceed the industry’s high performance expectations.

LTE requires multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO). Mobile devices that support MIMO typically have multiple resonators, but space constraints and interference issues make this a difficult implementation challenge, particularly for small mobile devices such as USB dongles, handsets, netbooks, and others. Further, if MIMO is not implemented properly, the benefits of the multi-path environment are lost.

SkyCross iMAT antennas address the MIMO challenge by enabling a single antenna element to behave like multiple optimized antennas, which streamlines the integration process, enables sleeker designs, and lowers cost, when compared to traditional antennas. The high performance of the iMAT antenna ultimately improves the throughput rates of the network. Today, SkyCross is mass producing its 4G antenna solutions for global WiMAX networks.

The network performance benefits of SkyCross antennas have already been proven at 2.5-2.7 GHz, which will be the most popular LTE frequency band outside of the United States. A test conducted in Hillsborough, Oregon, showed that iMAT antennas offer up to 2.5 times faster data rates, particularly in fringe areas, when compared to a conventional two-antenna approach. Other tests showed that iMAT antennas yielded the highest throughput on average. SkyCross iMAT antenna solutions offer performance benefits, significant cost savings, and overall customer satisfaction.

Some network operators already have LTE trials underway with preliminary launches scheduled as early as next year. Juniper Research predicts that LTE will grow rapidly, reaching 100 million subscribers by 20141. SkyCross has the technology, evaluation kits, and production capability ready today to address the needs of 4G launches around the world.
