CORDELE, GA - Leger & Son, Inc., a leading grower, packer and shipper of watermelons, announced the signing of a new two-year contract with CHEP, the global leader in pallet and container pooling services. Leger & Son uses CHEP pallets to transport Leger brand watermelons from facilities in Cordele, Rebecca, Pineview and Statesboro, Ga. to supermarket retailers, wholesale distributors and wholesale clubs along the East Coast and west to Texas.

Leger & Sons has been using CHEP pallets since switching from one-way white wood platforms about 15 years ago. The company cites the consistency, stability and strength of the CHEP pallet as primary reasons for the long-term relationship.

In addition, the fact that CHEP pallets are food grade has eliminated the company's concern over sanitary issues.

Leger & Son and CHEP are working together to help fund research, lobbying and consumer promotion activities at the National Watermelon Association.

About Leger & Son, Inc.: A family business, Leger & Son was built from hard work and dedication. C.M. (Buddy) Leger started growing and shipping watermelons throughout Georgia and Florida in 1965.
