05/29/09 - GUCA Scholarship Foundation Awards Scholarships

ATLANTA, GA - The GUCA Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the scholarships awarded to GUCA members children. The Foundation gave three industry scholarships to GUCA members’ children who are students in construction and/or building construction programs for 2009 of $2,000.00 each to:
Derek Buffardi, is the son of Derek C. and Martha J. Buffardi, Godwin Pumps, Kennesaw, Georgia. Derek is currently attending Georgia Institute of Technology majoring in civil/environmental engineering. Darren’s goal is to obtain both his Bachelor and Master’s degree and work with waste systems in the utility construction industry.
Sean Burch, is the son of Gwen and Anthony Burch, Douglas Electrical and Plumbing Company, Inc., Douglas, Georgia. Sean is currently attending South Georgia College majoring in engineering. Sean’s goal is to work for an engineering firm and eventually open his own company.
Zachary Morris, is the son of Buddy and Dawn Morris, Lenox Utility Contractors, LLC, Lenox, Georgia. Zachary is currently attending Georgia Institute of Technology majoring in civil engineering. Zachary’s goal is to work for a successful civil engineering firm which will help him gain knowledge and the experience required to obtain his professional engineer license. He plans to start his own business in Georgia.
The Foundation also gave three high school senior scholarships for 2009 of $1,000.00 each to:
Gregory Jackson, is the son on Barbara Jackson, Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority, Covington, Georgia. Gregory graduated from Newton High School and will be attending the Valdosta State Univerity where he plans a course of study in chemistry. Jarrod plans to continue his education by becoming a pharmacist.
Ashlan Troutman, is the daughter of Dennis and Jeana Hyde, D & J Pipeline Co., Mansfield, Georgia. Ashlan graduated from Piedmont Academy and plans to attend North Georgia College and State University to obtain her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree. After North Georgia College, Ashlan plans to advance in the medical field specializing in an aspect of nursing or continuing to medical school for a second degree.
John Vail, is the son of Donald and Gwen Vail, Greystone Grading, Fayetteville, Georgia. John graduated from Sandy Creek High School and plans to attend Georgia Southern University. He plans to major in pre-sports medicine and athletic training to receive a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
About The GUCA Scholarship Foundation: The GUCA Scholarship Foundation is a 50/C (3) charitable foundation created to help advance the college opportunities of GUCA contractor and associate member’s employee’s children. The Scholarship Foundation is funded by proceeds from the Scholarship Foundation Skeet Shoot, Fun Run and private donations. This year the GUCA held a very successful sporting clays event on April 13 where proceeds went to benefit this Foundation. Individual and corporate pledges are available and endowments and honorable contributions can be established in memory or honor of any company or individual.
