01/26/10 - Cary Company Wins Award for Product Excellence
|
CARY, N.C. - When the results of the 2010 Scovie Awards, the world's leading recognition for hot and spicy products, were announced, Scott Granai of Outta the Park Eats was excited to get the call from the competition organizers. Cary-based Outta the Park Eats, Inc. which manufactures Outta the Park BBQ Sauce, has received a 1st Place 2010 Scovie Award. In the industry's most rigorous blind tastings, a panel of the country's top culinary experts sampled hundreds of the world's most lauded gourmet foods, and the top scoring products each won a coveted Scovie banner.
Outta the Park BBQ Sauce won 1st Place in the “All Natural Mild Barbecue Sauce” category. Over 600 products from around the world competed for top honors. The Scovie Awards were created by Dave DeWitt, the nation's leading author on fiery cuisine and founder of the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show. The awards are named for Wilbur Scoville who pioneered a rating scale for spicy foods. The Scovie Awards have become the industry standard for excellence in more than 60 categories of fiery foods.
The Grand Prize winner was Pleasant Valley Kitchen Company in the tasting division with their habanero hot sauce entry, Sugar & Spice Sweet Sauce. The top award in Advertising and Marketing went to Toluca Gourmet, a first-time Scovie entrant.
Many of the Scovie award winning products, as well as thousands of other products, will be available to both trade buyers and consumers at the 22st Annual National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show, March 5-7, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. For information on exhibiting in the National Fiery Foods Show, call 505-873-8680, or visit www.fiery-foods.com.
About Outta the Park Eats: Scott and Beth Granai of Cary, NC, brought Outta the Park BBQ Sauce to market in August 2009. After nearly two decades of working in sales and marketing jobs primarily in the IT business, the husband and wife team saw great opportunity and potential to launch a new barbecue sauce that would appeal to the growing number of health conscious consumers.
Outta the Park BBQ Sauce is different from most sauces on shelves today because it contains no high fructose corn syrup, no MSG, and no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. The sauce has a rich, organic ketchup tomato base and harnesses a zesty blend of fresh jalapenos, ginger and spices to create great flavor and a crowd-pleasing, mild-medium level of heat.
Scott first created the award-winning sauce while making dinner one night. After tasting it, Beth rushed to write down the recipe sensing opportunity. She was confident Scott had just made a healthier version of America’s favorite sweet and tangy style sauce. Opportunity and a sense of duty were at play for Beth, as she had spent significant time and money trying numerous all natural and organic pantry items only to be disappointed with their taste and expensive price point.
Homerun taste paired with all natural and organic ingredients has been the driving force behind the business since day one. One family at a time, Outta the Park is bringing great tasting, healthier fare to backyards across the Triangle, NC and to a growing list of markets in several states.
Outta the Park BBQ Sauce is available at a number of Triangle retailers including all area Whole Foods Markets. The retail price ranges from $5-$7 per bottle. To view a complete list of retailers please visit our website at www.outtatheparksauce.com.
