RALEIGH, N.C. - The Majority Leader of the North Carolina Senate, Tony Rand, has announced his resignation from the state legislature, according to the News & Observer. Rand, a Democrat and representative of the nineteenth Senate district, served as the majority leader from 2001 through 2009. The N&O reports that Rand has accepted Governor Perdue's appointment as chairman of the state parole board, and that his resignation would take effect by the end of the year.
